At Overport Primary School all students are taught social and emotional learning skills through explicit teaching and through embedding them in daily classroom practices. The FRIENDS programs, Kimochi program, You Can Do It! and Play is the Way are used with class or small learning groups depending on the needs of the students.
- The Fun Friends and Friends for life programs help students to normalize feelings and identify signs of anxiety and stress. It provides students with strategies to deal with negative thoughts and associated feelings. - Kimochis are toys with feelings that build life skills through helping students identifying, understand and manage different emotions. - The Play is the Way approach uses games and classroom activities to build social and emotional learning skills through group interaction and teaching empowering language.
