1st September, 2020.
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come the end of the first day of spring, we look forward with optimism and anticipation that it will bring hope and a return to some normality. While we still do not know what the future holds, I wanted to take this moment to reflect on what we have achieved so far this year.
We have learnt that the relationship between the school and our families continues to be strong and vibrant. We have had confirmation of how highly skilled our teachers are and how appreciative our parents are of their gifts. We have marvelled at our brilliant technology and its capacity to bring learning into your homes. We have seen how committed our parents are to supporting their children within these highly unusual and challenging times. Our teachers have admired your persistence and strength as we journey through this together. We have learnt that our children are more resilient than we ever knew!
In a meeting today with the Department’s Senior Education Leader, I was proud to hear that she believed that all of us at Overport are doing a wonderful job in difficult circumstances; this means all of you, too. For many years I have spoken about the partnership between home and school and its vital impact of student outcomes, and never has it been as obvious as it is now.Let’s continue to stay the course and work together.
We fully understand those days where it just too hard. Those are they days where you pull up stumps and just enjoy the beautiful spring weather. A walk, a talk, a laugh with your precious children is often the best thing you can do...there is, after all, tomorrow.
We have loved seeing the positive comments that you have posted on social media or have sent thorough emails about our teachers, the work we are doing and the support the school has shown to both parents and students. This has lifted our spirits, strengthened our partnership and resolve to persevere.
We look forward to continuing together as we work through the rest of term 3.
Warmest Regards,
Julie Gleeson

10.08.2020 Update
Good afternoon Parents and Carers,
Please see attached an updated on-site attendance form to be used for requesting your child be supervised at school. The on-line link has been removed as further requirements are needed before your child's attendance can be approved.
As the government has declared that under Stage 4 ‘Stay at Home’ Restrictions, the default is that workplaces in metropolitan Melbourne are closed unless the workplace is part of a permitted industry as set out in the attachment. All Victorians are required to work from home, except where this is not practicable. Sole operators can continue to operate, if they do not have contact with the public, or with people other than those persons living in their primary household. This information is subject to the Directions of Victoria’s Chief Health Officer. The attached table outlines examples of workplaces that are closed for on-site work, open for on-site work with a COVID Safe Plan, and where there are restricted operations or industry specific obligations.
Therefore, please provide evidence of your 'Permit to Work' to the school along with the form vial email directly to my email address: Julie.Gleeson.@education.vic.gov.au
Also note that attendance is approved based on the assumption that the following statement is correct and true:
“Overport PS has a duty of care to provide an environment that is safe and without risks to heath of student and staff.
As such, you are agreeing that your child/ren have not been exposed to the Coronavirus nor experiencing symptoms such as fever, flu or cold-like symptoms or shortness of breath”.
It is recommended that you seek medical advice and they do not attend school if the above statement is incorrect.
Kind Regards,
Julie Gleeson

08.08.2020 Update #1
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am pleased to advise that the school will open Monday for students registered for on-site learning only. All students who can be at home are still to undertake remote learning. But those already registered for next week of permitted workers will be able to attend. Parents must provide evidence of “Permit to Work’ and children will be temperature checked each morning on entry to the classrooms. Please look for signed entry points in the TLC (senior) building. Parents who wish to collect books or devices may come to the school office throughout the day. Please see official communication provided to me by DHHS and DET attached.
Warmest regards,
Julie

Dear Parents and Carers,
As principal I have a duty of care to our staff, our students and the community. The less movement of people within our community, the greater the chance we collectively have of reducing the infection rate of this virus. I am genuinely concerned for the health of our community and our ability to stay safe. As a community I am confident that we will all do everything we can to follow the guidelines for the wellbeing and health of everyone.
Although, today our school is still closed, once we have advice from DHHS and Department of Education that we can re-open, request for on-site care have now changed. All current applications for on-site attendance have been made invalid and a new process and a new form is attached. That includes requests for both Thursday and Friday this week and for all following weeks. The deadline today is 5.00 pm. No requests can be approved after that time.

I have attached a letter regarding student on-site attendance for the coming weeks during this state of disaster together with a new on-site attendance application form. Government guidelines will be strictly adhered to and we plan to have very few children at school as all staff, except the small number undertaking on-site supervision, will be working from home as per Government guidelines. This advice may change as the Government’s advice changes in response to COVID-19 and l will keep you up-dated.
Today our school is closed. However, as soon as we are advised that we can open, we will again offer on-site attendance/supervision for the very few students whose family cannot make other care arrangements and meet the strict guidelines.
Staff have planned great on line learning for students and everyone is doing their very best. In many classes we are having 100% attendance on line which is fabulous.
Thank you to all for your continued support and understanding during this difficult time.
Kind regards

Term three parent-teacher catch-ups!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your ongoing support during this remote learning period. Our partnership with you is extremely important and something that we value as we work together in the best interest of your child.
You have recently received your child's mid-year report. You will have noticed a few modifications due to the circumstances around remote learning. The purpose of the report was to provide an outline of the content covered during semester one, their effort during learning, as well as their social interactions as a member of their grade during this unprecedented juncture.
Our teachers are able to offer you the opportunity to discuss the report, your child's progress this semester and ways you can support their learning at home. This is optional as no doubt, given the amount of regular contact that you may already have had with your child's teacher in various forms such as Google meets, feedback on student work on the online platforms, emails and phone calls, you may already feel that you have a clear understanding of the report.
These catch-ups, if required, will take the form of a 10-minute phone call during the week of Monday, 10 August. The phone calls will take place during the week on a day and time that suits you and is practical for the teacher. Please note teachers will be working around their daily program for this to take place.
Should you wish to do so, please email your child's teacher to advise them that you would like to schedule a phone call during the week and they will arrange a suitable time with you via email.
During this week our students have an opportunity to have a voice around the play spaces in our community. Your child is encouraged to be part of the 'Frankston City Play Strategy' project. This will provide an opportunity for student voice and agency by allowing them to express their ideas and viewpoints in developing play spaces around their community including walking and cycling tracks. These spaces will cater to the needs, ages and abilities of all Frankston citizens. More information can be found here: https://www.frankston.vic.gov.au/Your_Council/Have_Your_Say/Frankston_City_Play_Strategy
Therefore, we have allocated two wellbeing days during this week which will provide ample time for them to become engaged as well as facilitate opportunities for those who wish to speak to their child's teacher.
Kind regards,
Overport Leadership Team.

Dear Parent and Carers,
Today’s communication.
Remote learning, while this is our second time, is certainly still a new environment for teachers, parents and students alike. The many wonderful comments of appreciation through email, FB and directly to teachers at Google meets or SeeSaw have up-lifted and warmed us all and given our staff confidence in how they are supporting their students.
Teachers are educators first: While our teachers are highly skilled educators, I need to remind you that their main role is to support your child’s education. They are not equipped to give parenting advice or counselling. We are very much aware of the many challenges that are presented to you daily as you navigate through supporting your child or children with learning as well as, for many, the emotional stress associated with not being at school with their friends and familiar setting with which they are comfortable. This can cause a range of behaviors, especially in our youngest as they try to deal with and understand a strange new world.
There I have added a number of helpful links for you to access the correct platform for your concerns.

Our reports do look slightly different this time due to the current situation so please read the attached information so you understand what the changes are and why this has been necessary.
Curriculum Day postponed: Our Curriculum Day set for 21st August for Restorative Practices has been postponed. Given the uncertainty around when we will return on site from remote learning, we felt that this was prudent. We will advise of a future date, once this has been decided.

This is for planning purposes at this stage and is based on the assumption that the school will be cleared for opening. Availability of the onsite program will be confirmed as early as is possible. Please note, given the current situation we have changed the deadline to Thursday at 1.00 pm. To enable us to have sufficient staff, we cannot accept bookings after this time. Please use this link to book in and you may add siblings to the one booking page.
https://forms.gle/YJFs75seQpACckNcA
Please ensure you have exhausted all other options as the safest place for your child is at home.
If your child is unwell they must not attend and it is recommended that you seek medical advice and have them tested.
The children will be supervise to undertake their remote learning by school staff. Given the current situation in our school, please watch for all communications emails in case there is any changes to the plans to reopening of the school next week.

Dear parents, carers and students
I’m writing to update you on the situation at our school. I have been advised by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that contact tracing for our school is ongoing and our school remains closed.
DHHS, as the lead health agency, is continuing to identify and speak to all close contacts of the Out of School Hours Care staff member at Overport Primary School who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
Contact tracingContact tracing is a complex process and it is important for the safety of our school and community that it is undertaken in a thorough manner.
All staff and students are reminded that they are to stay at home until DHHS advises contact tracing is completed.
Any close contacts who have so far been identified by DHHS have been provided with instructions as to what they need to do to care for themselves and their families, whether they need to self-isolate, as well as any necessary further testing.
Next stepsOur school will need to remain closed until contact tracing is complete. I will provide a further update as soon as possible.
This means that even children whose parents cannot work from home, vulnerable children and children with a disability cannot attend school, until I advise you differently.
Once our school reopens, we will operate in line with the current advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer for schools in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire; the only students to attend on-site are:
· students who require on-site supervision – including children whose parents cannot work from home and where no other arrangements can be made, vulnerable children and children with a disability.
Students in Prep to Year 10 at government schools in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire will continue to learn from home until at least 19 August.
More informationI am very aware that this is a time of heightened anxiety for us all. The people best placed to answer your questions are the DET staff who are supporting us. You can contact them on the coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663, Monday to Friday during business hours. If you call them, please be clear that you are calling in relation to Overport Primary School, and they will provide as much information as they are able.
For school information in your language, call TIS National on 131 450. Please ask them to call the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663 and they will help interpret.
For health advice in other languages visit www.dhhs.vic.gov.au.
I encourage everyone to continuing supporting each other during this time.
I will continue to keep you informed as further updates become available.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Parents and Carers,
As you will all be aware by now, COVID 19 infection has been identified within our school. This is being dealt with at the highest level and we are being advised daily on recommendations for safe and effective management.
When I receive any information that may impact personally on the health and wellbeing of your children and family I will be in contact with you directly.
Please rest assured that everything to make our school safe for a return is being undertaken.
In the meantime, I ask you not to speculate, as incorrect information passed to our community can cause undue stress and alarm.
We will continue to keep you advised about the management of the situation and look forward to the reopening of the school as soon as it is safe to do.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Students of Essential Workers for Next Week and beyond. Please note that I must have these forms by 5.00 pm today to make effective arrangements of cover.
Those students of essential workers who cannot work from home or have no other options, such as family members, to care for their children, supervision will be provided to your children as required, as long as I am made aware of those likely needing this support by the deadline, please.
.As well as students of essential works, vulnerable students can be accommodated if it is in their best interest. Some students may not cope with the unusual arrangements that are in place for the small number of students on-site.
Therefore, please contact either one of our assistant principals or me directly for us to outline for you how this looks on-site so you can ascertain whether this will suit your child..
As well as the on-site attendance form and the declaration, if this is the first time your child/ren has attended on-site during remote learning, please provide the school with a letter or email from your employer. Please make sure you add your child/ren's names to the forms. If your child/ren are booked in but is not attending for various reasons, it is essential that your advise us. This information will be required every week for the following week by the deadline - Wednesday at 5.00 pm.
If you have questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me
