Years 3 and 4

In the Year Three and Four Area children are working towards the end of “Laying the Foundations” of their learning. They learn important skills that will scaffold their future education such as Timestables, reading for comprehension, Internet and library resource research. Children thoroughly enjoy completing project work and display their creations with great pride. They develop a greater confidence in their skills and are able to participate in discussion about their learning, ideas and beliefs. Children are able to become involved in extracurricular activities such as keyboard lessons and enjoy participating in team games with Year Nine sport coaches on Fridays. Children also enjoy completing plant life activities in the school nursery. A highlight of Year Four is the student’s first camp to Catherine’s Creek in which they display developing independence.

The Year Four Camp takes place in the first week of December every year, a time where Year Four students are able to feel confident and comfortable participating in what is a first time away from home for many students. Catherine’s Creek Camp is situated in the mountains near Yarragon and is an excellent venue for children with wonderful facilities, delicious food and supportive staff, situated in a magnificent landscape.

Children can participate in activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, archery and orienteering, use the flying fox, minigolf course or swimming in the pool, accompanied by a water slide. The camp runs for three days and two evenings in which highlights are fantastic bush walks and a wonderful disco! The camp is an aspiration for all children in Year Four and is the pinnacle of the year for the staff.
