Our school buildings are new and modern in design, providing outstanding opportunities to embrace innovative teaching and learning. We provide a balanced and comprehensive curriculum to implement leading-edge practices and teach for the future.
The school has a strong focus on Literacy, Numeracy, Inquiry, ICT and Student Wellbeing. Classroom programs are designed to support individual needs and are enriched by a number of specialist programs and features.
Our library is designed as an inquiry learning space to encourage a love of reading as well as investigation and is a central focus within the school. We also provide specialist teaching programs in performing arts, visual arts, HPE, Technology and Japanese to enrich our students’ school experiences.
A range of extra-curricular programs include:
A camping program from years 4 to 6,
Access to external instrumental program from year 3,
A swimming program,
An open night for our community,
School musical performances, including a major performance in term three for senior students and an end of year whole school concert,
As well as many excursions and incursions for all students.
These are all part of the Overport experience.
The School Council and staff emphasise school spirit, strong connectedness and a sense of pride in effort and achievement.
Overport is a Restorative Practice school. As such, children are encouraged to act responsibly, showing respect for people, the environment and property. A strong approach to wellbeing, which includes our Restorative Practices approach, is designed to support student social competencies across the school. We also promote GEM - Gratitude, Empathy and Kindness and Mindfulness through the Resilience Program.
We welcome our community to join us at whole school assembly when held outside approximately twice a term.
As well as this, our year six captains run afternoon assemblies in the school hall at 2.50 pm on Monday each week. We alternate between our lower and upper students each fortnight. Students may receive a CARES award which is a feature of the assembly.
At these weekly school assembly our school rules are highlighted and designed to assist students to interact positively with all.

As well as an acknowledgment for the Bunurong people of the Kulin nation, and the National Anthem and school song, the children make the following pledge:
I promise to do my best
For my country Australia,
For my school Overport,
And to help other people at all times.
