We understand that each child is a unique individual who deserves the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. We believe that all children have the right to be protected within our environment. We promote wellbeing through a nurturing environment with clear expectations and embed all child safe standards. Our school promotes inclusion and tolerance and, supports the democratic principles of Australia. Our Vision and Values can be found at the following link. Link on website. Our curriculum programs are supported by a broad range of specialist areas: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Japanese, Health and Physical Education and Technology. Our Library is student focused and offers a central focus for literacy and inquiry to all students. Enrolment: Currently we have enrolled 738 students. All schools have a designated neighbourhood boundary for their particular zone. You can establish if you are within our zone through the Find My School website at https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/ If you would like a tour of the school, please contact us to make an appointment. For families with a Prep for 2021, keep up to date with our tour dates by visiting our page devoted to transition dates and information here. Overport’s building design is unique. It has a semi-open plan style environment that offers opportunities for students to develop independence, make connections with a broad range of other students and staff as well as working in a calm, air-conditioned, attractive setting. Our senior students are housed in the “Towerhill Learning Centre” which comprises nine learning spaces and open plan areas. This environment supports explicit teaching as well as many opportunities for our students to set personal learning goals with their teachers, therefore, having ownership of their own learning. Our preps are housed in a flexible learning area in the “Summit Learning Centre”, where they have access to all their teachers. The “Summit Learning Centre” and the “Bayview Learning Centre” offer open yet flexible spaces for a range of teaching to suit all students’ needs. Our middle school is housed in the “Hakea Learning Centre”. The learning spaces are complemented by an extremely large well-equipped library, a visual arts centre, Japanese learning area. Technology rooms and a performing arts centre. The students have access to a large range of multimedia equipment including iPads, netbooks, notebooks, desk top computers within our two computer labs. All classes have interactive whiteboards or televisions. Our School Council through the Building and Grounds committee, has developed a whole school approach to our buildings and grounds development. The approach is designed to continue to beautify the school, embrace environmental awareness, offer student and school community ownership through a range of related garden areas such as our beautiful Indigenous garden, as well as support sustainability approaches through our vegetable garden. Out of Hours School Care Program: We are delighted to be able to offer before and after school care and a school holiday program for our students on our grounds through “Extend”. Those students and their families using the service have found it to be excellent. Please contact Extend directly on 1300 366 437 or make an online booking click here. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming our new local families to our school. Kind regards, Julie Gleeson Principal |
