ICT & Digital Technologies @ OPS
At Overport Primary School, where we are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive digital learning environment, allowing 21st-century learning to flourish. Our paramount goal is to inspire student engagement through the seamless integration of digital technologies into our curriculum.
At Overport, we understand the importance of cyber safety in the digital age. As part of our dedication to promoting responsible digital citizenship, we have partnered with the 'Cyber Safety Project.' This comprehensive program educates students on the essential pillars of cyber safety, encompassing responsibility, integrity, strength, and empathy, which are seamlessly woven into our curriculum.
To empower our students with the necessary digital skills, we provide access to a diverse array of digital devices through our leasing program. This initiative ensures that all levels of our school benefit from a 1:2 classroom ratio of devices, enhancing and enriching their learning experiences. Moreover, students can further explore and utilize technology in our well-equipped computer lab.
Our commitment to digital technologies extends to our curriculum, where students actively participate in Digital Technologies lessons. These immersive experiences encompass a wide range of activities, including CAD and 3D printing, robotics, microcontrollers, and computer programming. These experiences not only cultivate students' technological prowess but also nurture their problem-solving abilities and critical thinking and design skills.
To ensure effective integration of technology into our teaching practices, we adopt the PICRAT model. This model prompts teachers to reflect on two fundamental questions: Firstly, what is the students' relationship to the technology? (PIC: Passive, Interactive, Creative). Secondly, how is the teacher's use of technology influencing traditional practices? (RAT: Replace, Amplify, Transform). By consistently evaluating these aspects, our educators tailor technology integration to maximize its impact on student learning.
At Overport Primary School, we encourage students to explore their creativity and learning through our dedicated podcasting station. Professionally set up and equipped, this station empowers students to express themselves, share their ideas, and engage in collaborative learning through podcasting.
We invite you to be part of our vibrant learning community at Overport Primary School, where digital technologies serve as a catalyst for igniting curiosity, fostering collaboration, and preparing our students for success in an ever-evolving world. Together, we strive to nurture a generation of responsible digital citizens, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future.
