Japanese program at Overport Primary School

From Prep to Year six students learn Japanese in each semester. Through Japanese lessons, students will learn Japanese language and culture. Students will also have opportunities to learn other subject concepts and skills through Japanese lessons. For examples, Japanese food cooking and tasting as a part of chemical science, visiting our Japanese garden to learn about plant biology, doing origami activities to learn weather and seasons, creating and testing traditional Japanese toys as physical science learning, learn some Japanese history and geography by focusing on Ninja, and creating shops for junior students as economic and business learning. Students also regularly have opportunities to enhance their emotional and social wellbeing by checking how they are feeling in Japanese, playing social games to learn Japanese key words and phrases.
Currently under the remote learning situation, students will still have opportunities to learn Japanese language and other subject aspects by listening to the teacher’s Japanese talk and viewing the relevant videos, and doing some Japanese related craft activities and exercises.
