This term we will be learning all about traditional Fairy Tales. Fairy tales are fantastic for teaching morals of friendship, manners and responsibility. We will look at a different fairy tale each week during our literacy program and we will discuss the characters, the message contained within the stories and the children’s opinion of what happened in the story. To celebrate our learning of fairy tales, we will be having a special Fairy Tale Day in week 6. The information regarding this day was sent home earlier this week.
We are also having a Responsible Pet Ownership presentation, where the children will learn how to approach dogs in a safe manner and how to care for pets responsibly. In maths, our focus has been on counting groups of objects and then ‘bundling’ them into 10’s and 1’s, e.g. 35 has 3 tens and 5 ones. We have begun looking at how the numerals in each number represent a value, e.g. hundreds, tens or ones. Next week we will go back and begin looking at ‘teen’ numbers. Don’t forget to keep practising counting by 10’s! There are lots of songs on YouTube. We had lots of fun with Miss Higgins in our social session this week. We began exploring ways that we find useful for calming us when we are angry, sad, frightened, etc. Talk to your children about the following and maybe use them at home: milk shake breathing (in through nose and out through mouth), lego, drawing (highly calming), playing with blutac, pizza massage (using someones back to roll out the dough, place the ingredients, etc.), exercise (planks, running, starjumps), reading and hotdog (Lay a blanket on the floor and lie across the short end with your head sticking out. Roll yourself up tightly and stay there for a bit.) Please see your child’s teacher for further information. |
