Year 3 & 4
Numeracy:
After looking at place value and time the year 3's and 4's are now exploring with the 4 processes - addition and subtraction followed by division and multiplication. Students have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges that Term 1 brought to them and are ready to take on term 2. Students are encouraged to log onto Mathletics as a way of reinforcing what is being done in class.
Literacy:
During literacy the level 3 students have been looking into different types of writing genres like narratives, information reports and persuasive writing. Alongside this, we have been looking at various types of comprehension strategies, punctuation rules and grammar to further improve their writing skills. This term we will continue to look at growing our knowledge on all aspects of literacy.
Integrated and ICT:
For integrated studies this term we are looking at the Earth, moon and sun in a topic called “Our Place in Space” which will lead us into an excursion to science works. This will help us explore more of what we learn throughout the term. In ICT we will be logging all students onto Edmodo, which will allow students to have discussions with their teacher and classmates on various topics. We will also be working on word processing this term.
Big Write:
All 3/4 classes have continued to do the Big Write and VCOP program and really appreciate parents doing their part at home by assisting their child with the talk homework. All students have 2 nights to complete this 15 minute task and we ask that anyone not doing this to please help by sparing 15 minutes talking to your student about the topic assisting them with any questions they may have. If you have any questions about this please go and see your students’ classroom teacher.
Football Federation:
Later this term, the Football Federation of Victoria will be visiting us to encourage and motivate the students to play more and avoid “screen time”. Using a series of motivating games and activities students are challenged to think creatively about alternatives to screen-time, equipping them with the practical knowledge and awareness they need to make informed and positive lifestyle choices.
Concepts covered include active play through the ages, and the impacts of excessive recreational screen-time on our bodies.
